Education Grants for Women In The United States

In the United States, there is a wide variety of grants available to women for educational purposes. These may cover expenses related directly to education such as tuition fees and accommodation, or may help raise funds for side-expenses like food and clothing. The public sector provides many opportunities to women for educational purposes. The most widely known opportunity is the free grants given by the federal government of the United States. However, the opportunities are not restricted to this. Local governments also initiate programs that help women with their expenses. It is possible to find a grant that suits you as the opportunities are quite varied. Other than the financial assistance provided by the government, there are two other sources from which women can seek help. One of them is the trust, charities and foundations founded especially to help women, or those who have special programs for women next to grants available to a wider portion of the society.
Some examples are the Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting, the HORIZONS Foundation Scholarship Program, the Jeannette Rankin Foundation Women's Education Fund and the Association for Women In Science Scholarships and Fellowships. As the names of the foundations suggest as well, most grants are available to women studying in particular fields. While thinking of submitting an application to a foundation, women need to keep in mind for which field or fields of study the grant is provided. Another important remark to women is that they should check whether the grant is provided to US citizens only, or whether international students willing to study in or currently studying in the US are also eligible for the grant. Some bodies that provide grants tend to be quite strict on their policies regarding eligibility criteria, therefore this remark should be paid special attention not to be disappointed after applying for a grant. Both of these remarks are valid for the second source of grants for women: Private companies which support women financially. The most well-known of these companies is Google, with its Google Anita Borg Scholarships. Other than that The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund, in association with The World Bank is supportive of women. The number of private companies that have special scholarship programs for women is increasing every other day, so it is important to look around closely not to miss out grants.
It should also be noted that to qualify for grants, a strong academic record is a valuable asset. No company or foundation would be willing to invest in a blurred future. Therefore, in your applications, you should make them aware that you have set your goals and that you are determined to do your best to reach them, in addition to laying out your financial needs.
